Selective Mutism Clinic, Sydney - Fees and Medicare Rebates

FEES AND REBATES

The Australian Psychological Society sets guidelines for fees for psychological services. As of July 2009, the standard rate recommended for a one hour appointment is $206.

Our fee are less than this: A standard 50-60-minute therapy appointment is $170 and the initial assessment is $185. It is recommended that rural and interstate families who are travelling to Sydney for an assessment have an initial two-hour assessment ($340) followed by a one hour consultation on the same or following day ($170). Fees can be paid by cash or cheque at the end of the appointment.

Rebates:
Rebates for psychological services are available from several sources including:

Medicare
Under the Medicare 'Better access to mental health' scheme you can obtain a rebate for up to 12 therapy sessions in each calendar year. To be eligible to receive the rebate you must visit your GP, Psychiatrist, or Paediatrician and obtain a referral for psychological services as part of your overall treatment plan (also known as a ‘2710’ form). All of our psychologists are registered as specialist Medicare providers and can therefore pass on the full Medicare rebate. As of November 2009, the rebate is $117.65 per session for up to 12 sessions per calendar year. If you have reached your Medicare 'safety net' threshold for the calendar year, the rebate will be much more than this. Click here to read more about the Medicare safety net.

Medicare rebates are not currently available for telephone consultations. However, you may be able to claim a rebate for these services through your private health insurance.

Private Health Funds
Most private health funds provide rebates for psychological services depending upon your level of cover. Please contact your health fund to find out more.
